Lent 2024

Dear OLBSCA,

Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (Ash Wednesday) marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a 40 day period of preparation for our most sacred holiday, Easter.  Ashes will be distributed at OLBS Church at the 7:00 A.M., 9:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. Masses as well as at a prayer service at 11:00 A.M. (the Academy community will attend this prayer service - please join us!) and at 3:00 P.M.

I struggle with giving up something for Lent.  No one wants me to give up my morning tea!  This year I hope you will consider joining me to help to make the world a better place.   I will be adding an item needed by the food pantry at St. Kevin each time I visit the supermarket.  If you would like to join me, you can simply send your item into school; I will bring it over to St. Kevin. Items that they often ask for are Coffee (regular or decaf, ground or instant), Tea (regular or decaf), jelly or jam, peanut butter, shelf stable milk (similar or equal to Parmalat), canned salmon, canned tuna fish, black beans (canned or dry), red beans, (canned or dry), Garbanzo beans (canned or dry), rice (one or two pound bags), mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, dry cereal, pasta, pasta/tomato sauce, applesauce, canned fruit, and soup.

Your child will be coming home with a small cardboard box to collect money for the Propagation of the Faith, the main fundraising entity for the missionary work of the church. These Missionary priests, religious sisters, brothers and lay people provide food, education and medical care to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s mission around the world.  Please place your spare change in the box all throughout Lent and return it to school right after Easter.  Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference to someone in need.

Let’s make some HOLY MOMENTS this Lent by sharing what we have with others.

God bless you and your families,

Mrs. Joan Kane, Principal
