The academic program at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Academy is based on the New York State Common Core standards and the Diocese of Brooklyn standards for Religion. In addition to the academic subjects of Religion, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, we offer instruction in Music, Art, Italian, Spanish, Technology and Physical Education.
The Art program encourages students to express themselves by utilizing their artistic and creative talents. The program emphasizes the elements of art, artistic perception, art history and appreciation and aesthetics, as well as ways of integrating visual and creative thinking. All students from K through 8th Grade are scheduled for one art period per week. Students learn how to use a variety of media, techniques, and styles effectively. Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament offers Spanish and Italian from Nursery to 8th grade, once a week. The program is designed primarily as an introduction to foreign language in order to prepare students for high school language classes. In addition to music classes, our music program includes Music Together parent/child classes, a string ensemble, a show choir, and an independently run band program. All students learn to play the recorder beginning in 3rd Grade, and all students in 1st through 8th Grade participate in the two school concerts each year. Learn More
Physical education is provided for children from Nursery through 8th grade, one period per week. The children participate in developmentally appropriate activities while continuously working to improve and expand on earlier learned skills. Learn More
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament ELA Support encourages students to gain the support needed to build a solid foundation in reading and writing while in a small classroom setting. ELA Support is provided for students in 1st through 8th Grade and is a collaborative effort between the homeroom teacher and the reading teacher. Learn More
