Students will be able to enhance these skills through guided, shared and independent reading, as well as writing activities.

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament ELA Support encourages students to gain the support needed to build a solid foundation in Reading and Writing while in a small classroom setting. ELA Support is provided for students in grades 1-8 and is a collaborative effort between homeroom teacher and reading teacher. Homeroom teachers are consulted to ensure each student is equipped with the essential skills needed for school achievement. Along with overall school achievement, ELA Support fosters success on proficiency tests and as each student builds success, expectations are raised to provide a means of continuous growth.

3rd & 4th Grades

5th & 6th Grades
– Reading Strategies (Pre-Reading, Nonfiction texts, Post reading)
– Practicing logical and strategic thinking skills
– Story writing
– Mastering graphical organizers
– Phonics and word study

7th & 8th Grades
In the 7th grade, students will focus on:
– Literacy elements, such as character motivation
– Guided reading and comprehension
– Research and Study Skills

In the 8th grade, students will focus will focus on:
– TACHS Exam prep
– Guided reading and comprehension
– Study Skills
– Essay Writing
