In Ms. D’Andrea’s World Language class, students learned about "Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) - a traditional Meso-American holiday dedicated to loved ones who have passed away. This two-day celebration is on November 1 (All Saints Day) and November 2 (All Souls Day), and it is a blend of Meso-American rituals, Catholicism, and Hispanic culture. It honors both death and the cycle of life. This lovely celebration acknowledges that we still have a relationship with our ancestors and loved ones who have passed on.
In Grades 5-8, we have been creating an “Ofrenda,” an altar remembering the life of someone who is no longer with us - humans and animals. The students decorated the table with flowers, butterflies, painted skulls, candles, and prayer-poems.
